The Story Behind LouSurfacePattern

Welcome to LouSurfacePattern… and to my very first blog post!

LouSurfacePattern (or LSP) grew from my lifelong love of colour, pattern, textiles, and design. What began as a few tropical inspired paintings and experiments with my own creative style has evolved into a full collection of handmade treasures. From purses and cosmetic bags to cushions and canvas art prints. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to add a burst of joy and personality to your home or everyday routine.

Where It All Began

My journey with surface pattern design started with a simple love for art. After graduating from Leeds Arts University in 2019, I decided to take a leap and bring my vision to life, creating my own brand from the ground up. Pattern had always been part of my creative DNA, even back in my Art A-Level days, but founding LSP allowed me to fully embrace it. Through endless drawing, painting, photoshop pattern design and product experimentation, I eventually discovered my own unique aesthetic and carefully curated product range.

Inspiration Behind the Patterns

Nature has always been at the heart of my inspiration. I’m endlessly fascinated by the beauty and structure of foliage, the way organic shapes and textures create effortless pattern. But travel and architecture also play a big part in my creative process. Each design carries a little piece of those experiences, inviting others to connect through their own memories of place and adventure.

From the very beginning, LSP has celebrated bold colour combinations and designs that feel uplifting and full of life. More recently, I’ve explored a moodier, more grounded palette that offers a different kind of calm. My goal is for everyone to find something that speaks to them… whether through colour, pattern, or the quiet storytelling that art can hold.

From Patterns to Products

Every design begins with a painting. A simple brushstroke that eventually transforms into a piece you can hold, wear, or display. I love that journey: seeing an idea move from paper to a product that becomes part of someone’s everyday life. Whether it’s a cosmetic bag tucked in your handbag or a canvas print brightening your wall, each piece carries that original spark of creativity.

The latest addition to LSP is the canvas art print collection. Statement pieces that let my patterns live beyond accessories. Available in a range of sizes and frames, these canvases are designed to bring warmth, colour, and creativity to your space.

What’s Next

As I shift from selling in person at markets to focusing more online and stocking in shops across the UK, I’m so excited to share what’s next. Expect new patterns, seasonal drops, creative collaborations, and plenty of behind the scenes moments from my studio.
